Round 1 of the Frozen Fingers DragonForce 65 Winter Championship Series will take place on Sunday 22nd October 2017. As discussed at the lake last Sunday, when the vast majority of skippers indicated they would like to start racing at 10:00am, can we therefore ask that skippers are ready to start Race 1 at that time please?
Round 2 of the Dragon Force 65 Sunday Championship Series took place on Sunday 15th October 2017 on what was a warm partially cloudy day. The wind was primarily from the south at 10 – 12 mph gusting to 14 mph occasionally. All skippers started on A sails and remained on these throughout the day.
The course was a triangle and sausage in the middle of the lake, starting between marks 7 and 8, a beat to 12, downwind to 8, a reach to 7, beat to 12, downwind to 8, and finish between 12 and the bank.
Chris Aldred suffered a leak which caused him to retire after race 6, whilst John Newton had a snapped main sheet whilst leading race 5 necessitating him miss race 6 as well. Congratulations to George Patten on his first win with the Dragon Force 65, with our newest member, Geoff Howell, also having a first place, as well as Keith Gray. Despite a few bad starts, John Newton was able to recover to take first place on the day with 23 points, followed by Dave Bland who continues to improve in second on 32 points. Rodney Latham was third, also on 32 points but only had one win compared to Dave.
With Angela Mears, Glenn Meekcoms and Dennis Graham missing todays racing this now leaves Dave Bland leading the Dragon Force 65 Sunday Championship series with 20 points, followed by Keith Gray on 16 points and James Beale third on 15 points.

Just a quick reminder that Round 1 of the Frozen Fingers for DragonForce 65, takes place next Sunday 22nd October 2017.
Our President, John Coster has asked us to pass on his apologies for not being at the lake for the last few months due to his wife’s illness. However, he hopes to visit as and when things improve, but in the meantime, wishes everybody well, in their endeavours.
We all wish Jane and John all the best for the future.
Sunday 7th October was also the final round (round 8) of the Dragon Force 65 Monthly Championship.
The results show that Glenn Meekcoms is the Dragon Force 65 Monthly Championship Series with 8 points, followed Dennis Graham on 12 points, with John Newton and Angela Mears joint third on 22 points, but John taking the position base on his two wins versus Angel’s one.

Round 1 of the Autumn Dragon Forde 65 Sunday Champion Series took place on a partially cloudy Sunday 7th October 2017. The wind was primarily from the WNW at about 6 – 8 mph and so it was a windward/leeward course. Because a power boat was being used at the north end of the lake the first race was left of centre of the lake, starting between marks 7 and 8, a beat to 6, downwind to 9, beat to 6, downwind to 9 and finish between 6 and the bank. However, when the powerboat disappeared and because there was a slightly better wind, the course was moved to the north end of the lake, starting between marks 4 and 5, a beat to 1, downwind to 4, a beat to 1, downwind to 4 and finish between 1 and the bank.
We welcomed two potential new members, namely Geoff Howell and Jay Daltrey (junior) and Chris Aldred who has recently purchased a DF65. With wind coming over and round the Fort creating some difficult wind shifts, no one skipper dominated the day. However, Angela Mears with 2 wins and greater consistency was the overall winner on the day with 12 points. Dennis Graham with 2 wins, Glenn Meekcoms, Dave Bland and James Beale, all with one win fought very hard for second and third, with Glenn eventually taking second on 17 points, followed by Dennis Graham third on 19 points and Dave Bland a close fourth on 20 points, and James dropping away towards the end.
This being Round 1 of the Autumn Dragon Force 65 Sunday Championship Series, the positions are obviously the same, namely, Angela Mears first, Glenn Meekcoms second and Dennis Graham third.
Wednesday 4th October 2017 was Round 1 of the Autumn Mid-week IOM Championship Series and was an overcast day with a strong breeze of 12 – 15mph gusting to 17 mph, primarily from the South South West but veering slightly more westerly at times.
It was a windward/leeward course in the middle of the lake, starting between marks 8 and 9, with a beat to 12, downwind to X, beat to 12, downwind to X and finish between mark 7 and the bank.
At the start of racing the wind was about 10mph and so everybody started on No. 1 sails, but as the day went on the wind did gust at times to about 17mph causing a few to dive whilst going downwind, but everybody stayed on No.1 sails. Peter Herbert suffered an issue with his jib swivel moving at times, whilst Terry Wright appeared to have winch problems, which were not fixable at the lake and so retired after race 4.
With 8 wins from 8 races, John Newton was the overall winner on 6 points followed by Geoff Appleton, who had some close races with John Horsfield on 12 points, and John Horsfield third on 16 points.
As this was Round 1 of the Autumn Mid-week IOM Championship Series, it leaves John Newton leading on 5 points, followed by Geoff Appleton on 4 points and John Horsfield third on 3 points.
Round 1 of the Autumn Dragon Force 65 Sunday Championship Series took place on Sunday 1st October 2017 which was an overcast day with the odd spot of rain and a good consistent breeze at about 10mph from the South West.
Based on this, it was a windward/leeward course in the middle of the lake, starting between marks 7 and 8, a beat to 12, downwind to 7, back to 12, downwind to 7 and finish between 12 and the bank. This remained constant even though the wind did veer slightly towards the SSW.
As such, all skippers started the day on ‘A’ sails and coped very well, until race 6 when the wind suddenly increased to about 14mph when several skippers were unable to tack and control their boats so retired. At this stage an early lunch break was taken and everybody agreed to change to ‘B’ sails even though at the end of the break the wind had reduced again.
We welcomed Ian Kemp back after an extended absence due to his sailing his ‘big’ boat, but he seemed to suffer a rudder problem after the lunch break and so had to retire.
Whilst John Newton had hit a purple patch and won all the races, the rest of the fleet, especially Dave Bland, George Patten and Keith Gray fought over second and third places, such that Dave was able to take second on 26 points and George and Keith sharing third on 27 points, with George taking the position base on his two second places.
This being Round 1 it leaves John Newton leading the Autumn Dragon Force 65 Sunday Championship Series on 7 points, followed by Dave Bland on 6 points and George Patten third on 5 points.
