Round 5 of the Autumn Mid-week IOM Championship Series took place on a chilly Wednesday 8th November 2017, with a strong breeze primarily from the north north west.. As a consequence it was a windward/leeward course right at the northern end of the lake, starting between marks 5 and 6 with a beat to 2, downwind to X, a beat to 2, downwind to X and finishing between 4 and 5.
Several skippers suffered various issues throughout the day, with John Newton experiencing a snapped mainsail downhaul and eventually a broken jib swivel point; Terry Wright a battery failure; John Horsfield a snapped sheet and Geoff Hamilton a displaced jib.
As a consequence there were three skippers who had wins on the day, but John Newton with better consistency was the overall winner on 7 points followed by John Horsfield and Geoff Appleton on 12 points but John taking second based on his two first finishes.
This now leaves John Newton still leading the Autumn Mid-week IOM Championship Series on 15 points, followed by John Horsfield on 11 points and Geoff Appleton third on 10 points.
