The final round (Round 12) of the Summer Mid-week IOM Championship Series took place on what was initially a bright sunny day which clouded over quite quickly and actually threatened rain at one point.
The wind was primarily from the South West and was quite a good breeze at 8 – 10 mph gusting to 12 mph. It was a windward/leeward course, starting between marks 8 and 9, a beat to 12, down to X, a beat to 12, down to X and finish between Mark 7 and the flag on the bank.
Although there was only three IOM skippers and Graham Bartholomew practising with his RG 65, there was some good close sailing at times, with Terry Wright continuing to show improvement, with a little help from friends. So much so that he actually won two races, his first ever since joining the club recently. Peter Herbert is also showing signs of improvement with good boat speed but some silly mistakes letting him down.
However, with his consistency, John Newton was the overall winner on the day with 7 points followed by Terry Wright on 12 points and Peter Herbert third on 20 points.
Being the final round of the Summer Mid-week IOM Championship Series, leaves John Newton as the overall winner on 20 points, followed by John Horsfield on 19 points and Graham Bartholomew third on 18 points.
