The penultimate round of the Coalhouse Fort RYC Summer Sunday Dragon Force 65 Championship Series took place on Sunday 17th September 2017 on what was a partly cloudy day. The wind was initially from the NNW but gradually veered to NNE and varied in strength from virtually nothing to about 4 – 5 mph and so A+ plus sails were mainly the order of the day.
The wind being from primarily from the North, it was a windward/leeward course in the middle of the lake, starting between marks 7 and 8, a beat to 6, back to 8, returning to 6, and back to 8 with the finish between 5 and 6.
James Beale started the day with a good win in the first race, but was unable to maintain this performance for the rest of the day. Keith Gray had a good day and was consistent, but Dennis Graham, apart from a couple of bad races was the better skipper on the day. Following a bad start, John Newton started to improve until race four when holding a substantial lead, experienced a transmitter issue and had to retire for the rest of the day. With the variable wind etc. only 6 races were completed, of which Dennis Graham won three and so was the overall winner with 9 points. He was closely followed by Keith Gray on 10 points with George Patten third on 15 points.
Being the penultimate round of the Coalhouse Fort RYC Summer Sunday Dragon Force 65 Sunday Championship Series, it is very close and so everything to play for in the next round. John Newton and Dennis Graham are tying for first place on 55 points, with John taking it based on count back and Glenn Meekcoms third on 46 points.
