Dragon Force 65 Sunday Championship Series.

Sunday 27th August saw another good turn out of 10 skippers for Round 7 of the Sunday Dragon Force 65 Sunday Championship Series on a sunny day with the wind veering from SW to W throughout the day, at about 5 – 7 mph. As such ideal for those with the A+ sails, which was basically everybody apart from Geoff Appleton and James Beale.

Initially it was a windward/leeward course in the middle of the lake starting between mark 12 and the bank, with a beat up to mark 9, down to 12, back to 9, down to 12 and finish between 8 and 9, all on port. As the day went on a similar windward/leeward course was moved to the southern end of the lake, starting between marks 13 and 14, a beat up to 10, down to 13, up to 10, back to 13 and finish between 10 and 11. This seem to cause some issues at the far mark and so the windward mark was changed to mark 11 instead of 10.

With the low wind speed, Geoff Appleton and James Beale struggled to keep with the main fleet at times and so Geoff retired taking the opportunity to mentor some skippers, whilst James persisted. The overall winner on the day was Keith Gray on 9 points, followed by Dennis Graham on 15 points, with Dave Crane and Glenn Meekcoms sharing third on 16 points, but Glenn taking the position by virtue of having two second places.

    Hi
Being new to this class, and not fully understanding how the overall results are calculated, please could you advise me when the second discard comes into place please? Is it after the 6th result or after the 7th result please?

    Just confused,

as I’ve had 6 results and TWO discards and

James Beale who has also had 6 results has only has ONE discard??

    Thanking you
    Keith Gray

Keith, as it states at the bottom of the table we take half your scores plus 1, we then discard the rest. Having said that, you are quite correct regarding James Beale in that he should have two discards like yourself. However, if I take his two worst scores, namely 1 and 2 it still adds up to three so no actual change in the results, but thank you for pointing out my error, I shall have to be more careful!!
