Sunday 30th July was a partially sunny day with a strong breeze primarily from the WSW which meant that most skippers started on ‘A’ Sails with one or two on ‘A+’. However those on the ‘A+’ sails quickly changed down to ‘A’ and as the day progressed the wind strengthened such that some skippers changed down to ‘B’ sails.
With the wind from the WSW the start was between marks 8 and 9, with a beat down to 12, back to 9, down to 12, back to 9 and finish between 12 and the bank.
Howard Dalton and Angela Mears were given average points for day for race 1 following their help to recover John Newton’s boat who had failed to turn his boat on. After race 1, apart from Howard Dalton who persevered for a few more races, those on ‘A+’ sails changed down to ‘A’ sails as the wind was too strong. James Beale had to leave early so missed several races and as the wind strengthened several skippers struggled on their ‘A’ sails and so changed down to ‘B’ sails.
With his consistent sailing Glenn Meekcoms was the overall winner on 11 points, followed by Angela Mears on 18 points and John Newton, who missed the last two races, third on 22 points.
This now leaves John Newton still leading the Dragon Force 65 Sunday Series on 21 points, followed by Glenn Meekcoms and Angela Mears on 20 points, with Glenn taking second based on count back.
