Round 2 of the Summer Dragon Force 65 Championship Series took place on Sunday 23rd July 2017, on what was a warm cloudy day with some sun. There was a good breeze primarily from the WSW which strengthened as the day went on and veered to the west at times.
It was a windward/leeward course starting between marks 8 and 9, down to 12, up to 9, down to 12, up to 9 and finishing between 12 and the bank all on port.
Whilst most skippers used ‘A’ rigs, there were some who opted to use ‘A+’ rigs, with the latter giving some slight advantage but not greatly. As the wind increased all skippers used their ‘A’ rigs for the rest of the day. Dennis Graham was one skipper who gained from the use of the ‘A+’ rig initially, but as the wind strengthened he lost his advantage to both John Newton and Angela Mears. John was using his V6 for the very first time and after a couple of tuning issues was able to take several wins and so take winner on the day with 12 points. With his initial advantage Dennis was able to take second place with 15 points followed by Angela Mears third on 20 points.
