Wednesday 14th June 2017 was a glorious day, with a strong breeze strengthening as the day progressed, primarily from the NE veering to the ENE. It was a windward/leeward course starting between marks 11 and 12, a beat to mark 9, a run down to mark 13, a beat to mark 9, a run down to mark 13 and a beat to finish between marks 11 and 12.
A number of skippers had problems, namely John Newton who broke a shroud even before racing started and had to carry out a temporary repair; Geoff Appleton who lost contact between his transmitter and receiver and so retired after race 4; Malcolm Schaffer who snapped his winch cord and so retired after race 6; and Peter Herbert who had various issues throughout the day retiring after race 7.
There was some close racing at the front between Andy Seymour, John Newton and John Horsfield, but it was Andy’s better consistency that took the overall win with 9 points, followed by John Newton on 12 points and John Horsfield third on 15 points.
Being the penultimate round and three discards, Graham Bartholomew still leads the Spring Mid-week IOM Championship Series with 7 points, followed by John Newton on 12 points and Geoff Appleton third on 21 points.
The final round of the Spring Mid-week IOM Championship Series will take place on Wednesday 21st June 2017, so let’s see a few more skippers participating.
