Another good turn out for the Dragon Force 65’s on Sunday 7th May 2017. It was a somewhat overcast and chilly day with the wind primarily from the North. A windward/leeward course was set which initially started between marks 7 and 8, then down to 6, back to 8, down to 6, back to 8 and finish between 6 and the bank. After a couple of races there was a minor change to the course, with the leeward mark being changed to 5 instead of six.
There was some really good close racing with some of our newer skippers making progress, suggesting that the mentoring sessions on a Thursday appear to be having some influence. Notably was George Patten, who if he hadn’t made a few silly mistakes would have done much better. Steve Bines is also making progress and again if he hadn’t made some silly mistakes in races 4 and 5 would have been better placed. But, congratulations to everybody who are showing signs of improvement.
Overall, the winner on the day was Dennis Graham with his new V6 version on 15 points, followed by John Newton with a V2 version and old sails on 16 points, and Dave Bland third on 24 points.
With the good turn outs, it was suggested in last weeks report that we have a quarterly championship similar to that which we have for the IOMs on a Wednesday? If it is agreed, this spring quarter would be a short one of 8 weeks taking us through to the end of June. Obviously as this would be week 1 the positions would be as above, with half + 1 scores to count.
Just a reminder that next Sunday 14th May 2017 is the Eastern District Dragon Force 65 Championship, and if you have not already entered there is still time to get your entry in. The skippers briefing will be at 09.45 am with the first race shortly after, so make sure you are there on time.
