Round 4 of the Spring Mid-week IOM Championship Series took place on Wednesday 26th April. It was an extremely cold day with sun, rain and hailstones at various times, with a strong breeze primarily from the North but veering to the North east at times. It was a windward/leeward course at the northern end of the lake, although as the wind veered to the North East the course was moved to the centre of the lake.
Although we started with six skippers braving the elements, Geoff Appleton suffered a rudder servo failure and Peter Herbert and Malcolm Schaffer suffered various issues and so were unable to complete several races. Graham Bartholomew suffered yet another shroud breakage although this time it was the bottle screw connection and so he had to carry out a temporary repair which allowed him to continue. As only three skippers were left sailing and it was bitterly cold and raining, racing was abandoned after 7 races.
In his usual manner, Colin Goodman won all the races and so ended up the overall winner on 6 points, followed by Graham Bartholomew with 12 points and John Newton third with 17 points.
With rounds 1 and 2 being cancelled, this leaves Graham Bartholomew leading the Spring Mid-week IOM Championship Series on 4 points, followed by Colin Goodman on 7 points and Vernon Appleton third on 8 points.
