Due to unforeseen circumstances Rounds 1 and 2 of the Spring Mid-week IOM Championship Series had been cancelled, and so Round 3 became the opening round which took place on Wednesday 19th April. It was a bright but fresh spring day with a strong breeze primarily from the ENE which created a compromised course. It was a windward/leeward course starting between mark 12 and the bank; up to mark 9; back to 12; up to 9; back to 12 and finish between marks 8 and 9.
Whilst 7 skippers initially turned up, one who shall remain nameless had left his transmitter at home and Peter Herbert had a winch issue and so was unable to start. We welcomed Angela Mears, who was obviously getting some practice in before the Coventry Trophy this coming Sunday.
Vernon Appleton was his usual consistent self with one bad race and so was the overall winner on the day with 6 points, followed by Graham Bartholomew on 10 points and Angela Mears third on 19 points.
Whilst this was round 3, there being no rounds 1 and 2, leaves Vernon Appleton leading the Spring Mid-week Championship on 1 point followed by Graham Bartholomew on 2 points and Angela Mears third on 3 points.
In terms of the annual league, Vernon Appleton continues to lead with 1036 points followed by Colin Goodman with 700 points and Graham Bartholomew third with 462 points.
