Sunday 16th April 2017 saw six skippers sailing on a bright but cloudy day with the wind primarily from the NW, backing to WNW at times causing difficulties for most skippers from time to time. It was a windward/leeward course at the north end of the lake starting between marks 4 and 5; down to mark 1; back to mark 4; down to mark 1; back to mark 4 and finish between 1 and the bank.
Geoff Appleton showed some consistent sailing, slightly better than Malcolm Schaffer who had a problem with his jib swivel point in race 2. Dave Bland also had a consistent day, but had to leave early, whilst George Patten and Keith Gray struggled at times, bearing in mind this was Keith’s first competitive race day. Bill Still struggled all day with the swirling wind and a few rig changes need to be made to his boat which should help in future events.
Overall, Geoff Appleton was the winner with 8 points, followed by Malcolm Schaffer with 11 points and Dave Bland third with 18 points.
Skippers are reminded that next Sunday 23rd April is the Coventry Trophy for IOM boats so the next DF65 event will be 30th April 2017.
