The final round of the ‘Frozen Fingers’ Winter Championship Series for Dragon Force 65 boats took place on Sunday 26th March 2017. It was a bright day with a strong wind primarily from the ENE which led to a windward/leeward course towards the south end of the lake.
Whilst initially there were seven skippers, Ian Kemp suffered from various winch issues which meant he retired without starting a race, and Geoff Appleton missed the first three races with receiver issues. Apart from that, racing was very close at times, with four skippers taking wins, although Glenn Meekcoms consistency meant that he was the overall winner on the day with 13 points. Rodney Latham was second on 17 points and Dennis Graham who had a few bad races was third on 20 points.
Prior to this event, the top places were very close and so today’s results were likely to to prove decisive in deciding the overall ‘Frozen Fingers’ Winter Series Champion. However, as it turns out, it was so close that Glenn Meekcoms and Dennis Graham ended the series on exactly the same points, with exactly the same finishes. As such they share the honours of top position with 9 points, with Buzz Coleman and John Newton in joint third on 10 points, but with Buzz taking the third position based on count back.
