On a very cold and sometimes wet Wednesday January 4th 2017 morning, Round 1 of the Winter Mid-week IOM Championship Series kicked off. With a relatively strong wind veering from NNW to NW, a straight forward windward/leeward course was set at the north end of the lake. With a minor change of course after two races the course remained the same for the rest of the day.
Peter Herbert had some electrical problems which seemed to plague him through the day and John Newton had a winch problem after race 1, which could not be resolved on the day so had to retire. A number of skippers were absent for various reasons following the Christmas and New Years festivities, but we hope to see more over the coming weeks.
Colin Goodman started the year as he had finished 2016 and as we have now come to expect by winning all the races on the day and so was the overall winner with 7 points. Vernon Appleton and Geoff Appleton both challenged Colin at times, but had to settle for second on 14 points and third on 21 points respectively. As previously mentioned, we have included another column, ‘Performance’ which is a measure of a skippers ‘Performance’ on the day.
We will also be running an annual League which will use the Eastern District points scoring system which takes into account the number of participating skippers per event. As this was the first round little point in showing the table but from the next round this will also be reported.
With this being Round 1 of the Winter Mid-week IOM Championship Series, Colin Goodman leads on 1 points followed by Vernon Appleton on 2 points and Geoff Appleton third on 3 points.
