Round 8 of the Autumn Mid-week IOM Championship Series took place on Wednesday 23rd November 2016. It would good to see a reasonable turn out, following several weeks of low attendance due to various reasons.
It was a good breeze primarily from the ENE leading to a triangle and sausage course at the southern end of the lake, starting between marks 5 and 12; up to 11; down to 6; back to 5; up to 12; back to 5 and finish between marks 6 and 11.
Colin Goodman had his usual good day, winning all the races and so the overall winner on 10 points. Graham Bartholomew had some major issues at the beginning of the day, and then came good towards the end, thereby taking second place on 27 points. Vernon Appleton started off well but unfortunately had to leave early due to work needs, without which he would have been up there fighting for second place, so ended up fourth on 44 points. As it was, Geoff Appleton, with some consistent results was able to take third place with 39 points.
A good days racing with some good close racing at times, with all skippers doing their penalty turns without question, so thanks guys, it really makes it a pleasant day for everybody – so let’s keep it up and let’s see more IOM skippers out there racing.
This now leaves Graham Bartholomew leading the Autumn Mid-week Championship Series on 7 points, followed by Geoff Appleton on 9 points and joint third, John Newton and Vernon Appleton on 10 points.
Just a quick reminder that Sunday December 4th 2016 is the icicle Trophy so if you have not already entered, now is the time to do so by either using the MYA Online Entry Form or email John Newton and Geoff Appleton.
