Round 2 of the ‘Frozen Fingers’ Dragon Force 65 Winter Series took place on Sunday 13th November 2016 on what turned out to be a great day for sailing. There was a reasonable strong breeze for most of the time, increasing as the day went on, primarily from the NNW, gradually veering to NW.
The initial course was a windward/leeward course at the north end of the lake, starting between marks 10 and 2; down to 8; back to 11 and then finish between 10 and 2. After a couple of races, this was changed, retaining a windward/leeward course, but in the middle of the lake, starting between the new number 8 and unmarked white mark; down to 7; back to 11; down to 8; back to 11 and finish between the unmarked white and the bank.
There was some quite close racing at times with 5 skippers scoring a win, but consistency was the order of the day, and John Newton came through to take the overall win on the day with 5 wins and 17 points. Geoff Appleton was second on 26 points and Glenn Meekcoms third on 29 points. Dave Bland started off very well, but seem to go to sleep in the middle of the day and then recovered towards the end to take fourth place.
Following his win in round 1, Dennis Graham seemed to struggle today as did Jim La Roche who had some technical problems and thus missed the first three races.
