Round 1 of the Autumn Mid-week IOM Championship Series took place on Wednesday 5th October 2016. It was a partly cloudy day with a strong breeze primarily from the ENE and so it was a triangle and sausage course in the middle of the lake.
The strong wind did cause a few problems for some skippers at times, but other issues prevented some skippers racing. Andy Seymour suffered with water ingress into his transmitter after allowing weed to land on it after the first race and so did not enter again until race 8. John Horsfield identified a crack in his hull just in front of his fin and so retired after race 4.
There was some close racing at the front but with six wins Graham Bartholomew was the overall winner with 15 points, followed by Vernon Appleton on 16 points and John Newton third on 17 points.
Being Round 1 this leaves Graham Bartholomew leading the Autumn Mid-week IOM Championship Series, followed by Vernon Appleton and John Newton third.
