Round 10 of the Summer Mid-week IOM Championship Series took place on Wednesday 8th September 2016. It was a warm sunny day with a reasonably strong breeze albeit primarily from ENE but veering to the E as the day went on. It was difficult to set a consistent course but initially it was a triangle and sausage at the north end of the lake. The start used marks 10 and 7; down to 9; then 8 and back to 11; then back to 8 and finish between 7 and 10.
However after lunch the wind had veered and so a windward/leeward course was set at the south end of the lake. A number skippers had to leave early and so racing was abandoned after race 6 when all legs became reaches.
Whilst Graham Bartholomew made a great start he suffered a few issues allowing Vernon Appleton to take first place with 7 points, followed by Graham with 13 points and John Lambert third with 17 points. Although Geoff Appleton also had 17 points, John took third place by virtue of his second place finish.
Being Round 10 and with three discards, Vernon Appleton and Graham Bartholomew both have 10 points in the Summer Mid-week IOM Championship Series. However with three wins versus Graham’s two, Vernon takes first place, followed by Graham Batholomew, with John Lambert third on 20 points.
