Round 9 of the Mid-week IOM Championship took place on Wednesday 31st August, which was a warm sunny day. The wind was primarily from the SSW backing to SW at times so a windward/leeward course was set at the southern end of the lake, using marks 3 and 11 as the start; down to 5; back to 3; down to 5; back to three and finish between 5 and the bank.
Unfortunately Dave Sellens suffered a rudder issue requiring his very able assistant to go round to the far side of the lake to recover his boat, which was not repairable on site. We welcomed Phil Hulson back and look forward to him joining us more frequently. Apart from that, racing was quite close at the front with three skippers taking two first places, but it was Vernon Appleton’s consistency that enabled him to be the overall winner. Vernon was the winner with 8 points, closely followed by John Lambert with 9 points and Geoff Appleton a close third on 11 points.
With still only two discards, Vernon Appleton now leads the Summer Mid-week IOM Championship Series with 12 points, followed by Graham Bartholomew on 14 points and John Lambert third on 23 points.
