Wednesday 24th August was an extremely hot day for Round 8 of the Summer Mid-week IOM Championship Series. Initially there was very little wind, but as we started to sail so a gentle breeze primarily from the NE but backing N at times allowed a windward/leeward course to be set at the southern end of the lake. This continued basically throughout the day, although it still remained extremely hot.
With none of the top three skippers taking part, this enabled us lesser mortals to fight out the finishing positions, with the top four skippers all taking at least one win. However, John Lambert was the most consistent and as a consequence was the overall winner on 15 points just beating Geoff Appleton by one point and John Newton third on 20 points.
With two discards, Graham Bartholomew still leads the Summer Mid-week IOM Championship Series on 8 points, followed by Vernon Appleton on 11 points and Colin Goodman on 17 points. With his win today, John Lambert has moved above Geoff Appleton and Malcolm Schaffer to take fourth spot at the moment, so well done John.
