Wednesday 6th July was a sunny day for round 1 of the Mid-week Summer IOM Championship Series, with a wind primarily from the WNW backing to W from time to time. This created some problems for skippers especially as the strength of the wind also varied throughout the races at times.
The course was two rounds of a triangle at the north end of the lake using marks10 and 2 as the start and then 9, 8 and 10 and finishing between 9 and 8 – this remained the course for the day despite the vagaries of the wind. Peter Herbert struggled throughout the day with various problems and John Newton was sailing his Kantun S MX for the first time and had some teething problems that need to be sorted.
Colin Goodman continued with his normal form and finished as the overall winner with 9 points, followed by Graham Bartholomew with 17 points and Malcolm Schaffer third with 40 points. The rest were very close with 10 points covering third to eighth with various skippers having both good and bad races.
Being Round 1 the positions are as above with Colin Goodman leading followed by Graham Bartholomew second and Malcolm Schaffer third.
