Round 9 of the Spring Mid-week IOM Championship took place on Wednesday 1st June 2016. It was a very overcast day, sometimes very wet and with a varying breeze in terms of strength primarily from the North.
Most people started on No. 1 sails apart from John Newton who broke a shroud and so moved to No. 2 sails. Race three seemed to prove that this was the right choice when everybody else suffered issues and John went on to win the race. Graham Bartholomew broke a bowsie and so changed down to No.2 also, at which point the wind reduced in strength, thus allowing those on No.1 to take advantage. Whilst Graham put up a valiant effort he was no match for those on No.1 sails. However, the wind increased for race 9 but then decreased again.
As a consequence, Vernon Appleton was the winner overall on 16 points, followed by Geoff Appleton on 19 points and Graham Bartholomew third on 20 points.
As this was round 9 of the Spring Mid-week IOM Championship Series and three discards, Colin Goodman still leads on 6 points, followed by Vernon Appleton on 11 points and Graham Bartholomew third on 12 points.
