Round 8 of the Mid-week IOM Championship took place on Wednesday 25th May on what was an overcast but mainly dry day. The wind was a strong breeze, primarily from the NW veering to N at times, and so a windward/leeward course was set at the northern end of the lake. The only change throughout the day was to the start which moved from between marks 10 and 2 to 7 and 10.
Apart from the fact that Vernon Appleton and Malcolm Schaffer had to leave early, the only other mishap was suffered by John Newton, who missed the same mark twice and then hit it head on breaking his jib, which obviously put paid to his racing for the day.
Some good close racing at times but the overall winner was Colin Goodman with 10 points, followed by Graham Bartholomew on 22 points and Geoff Appleton third on 40 points.
Being Round 8 and three discards, Colin Goodman still leads the Spring Mid-week IOM Championship Series with 5 points, now followed by Graham Bartholomew with 9 points and Vernon Appleton third with 10 points.
