Round 7 of the Spring Mid-week IOM Championship Series took place on Wednesday 18th May. It was an overcast day with some rain initially which stopped by the time racing started. However, after lunch the rain came back with increased wind strength which curtailed racing.
With a strong breeze primarily from the SSW backing to south, a windward/leeward course was set, staring between marks 6 and 11 down to 12; back to 6; down to 12; then down to 10 and finish between 6 and 11.
Colin Goodman had a good day, yet again, followed by Vernon Appleton and Graham Bartholomew, who was using his old Widget. Malcolm Schaffer made a bad start, but after Colin had made some adjustments to the boat, Malcolm came good and started to challenge the leaders. Unfortunately, Geoff Appleton had some electrical issues which caused him problems through out the day and eventually led to him failing to start the last two races.
After have raced the same course all day, the last race was strange in that the leading three boats sailed the wrong course, with Colin Goodman realising his mistake and correcting it with Graham and Malcolm failing to finish, allowing John Newton to take second.
So at the end of the day, Colin Goodman was the overall winner with 9 points, followed by Vernon Appleton on 21 points and Graham Bartholomew third on 32 points.
With two discards, this leaves Colin Goodman still leading the Spring Mid-week IOM Championship Series on 5 points, followed by Vernon Appleton and Graham Bartholomew on 10 points, with Vernon taking second based on count back.
