Round 6 of the Spring Mid-week IOM Championship took place on Wednesday 11th May. On arrival it was very overcast but dry, although this was short lived as when we started racing the rain came down for some time.
It was a gentle breeze from the ENE which reduced in strength and veered more easterly as the day went on. A windward/leeward course was set at the southern end of the lake and this was maintained for the short lived day, as the wind just dropped off completely after lunch.
Whilst initially there were 7 skippers, Malcolm Schaffer had a rudder linkage issue which he was unable to fix at the lake, and Graham Bartholomew had a transmitter problem with water ingress causing him to retire after the second race. We welcomed Phil Hulson back after a prolonged break and look forward to him joining us more often.
This left Vernon Appleton to be the winner overall on 5 points with Ray Bland second on 12 points and John Newton third on 16 points.
With two discards, this now leaves Colin Goodman still leading the Spring Mid-week IOM Championship on 4 points, followed by Graham Bartholomew on 7 points and Vernon Appleton third on 8 points.
