What a lovely day for sailing IOM boats at Coalhouse Fort – blue sky, warm and a good southerly breeze which remained relatively consistent, although veering to SSW at times. It was a straight forward windward/leeward course in the middle section of the lake, which remained constant throughout the day, with eight skippers competing. It would have been nine but John Newton had winch issues before even starting so was unable to compete at all.
There was some good close racing at times between Colin Goodman, Vernon Appleton and Graham Bartholomew with the rest of the pack picking up the rest of the places, although when Vernon had to leave early Geoff Appleton took over. An unfortunate incident between Malcolm Schaffer and Andy Seymour led to Malcolm’s mast breaking as they tried to disentangle the boats once they had reached the shore, so Malcolm could no longer continue.
Colin Goodman had yet another great day being the overall winner on 11 points, followed by Graham Bartholomew on 26 points and Vernon Appleton third on 37 points – Up to Vernon leaving early, he would have been in second place
With one discard, Colin Goodman leads the Spring Mid-week IOM Championship on 4 points with Graham Bartholomew second on 7 points and Vernon Appleton third on 10 points.
