Round 3 of the Mid-week IOM Championship took place on a sunny but chilly Wednesday 20th April 2016. Initially the wind was from the ENE but backed to more NE and remained relatively strong all day. A windward/leeward course at the south end of the lake was selected and remained the same for the day.
We Welcomed a guest from Southend MBC, namely, John Moore, who sailed with us for a short period and was helped by Colin Goodman to set his boat up. Alan Bevan was also present initially, but had only brought his No.1 sails and the conditions were definitely No. 2, so Alan abandoned racing for the day. Two skippers, namely Malcolm Schaffer and John Horsfield experienced various issues and consequently withdrew from the event.
There was some close racing at the front between Colin Goodman and Vernon Appleton, but at the end of the day, Colin was the overall winner on 10 points, followed by Vernon on 15 points with Andy Seymour third on 29 points.
So after three rounds, Colin Goodman now leads the Spring Mid-week IOM Championship with 7 points followed by Vernon Appleton on 8 points and Graham Bartholomew third on 11 points. After that there is 4 points covering the next six skippers so quite close.
