Mid-week Championship (6th April)

Round 1 of the Spring Quarter Mid-week IOM Championship took place on Wednesday 6th April 2016. It was initially an overcast day with a small shower and a strong breeze primarily from the SSW. As the day went on it brightened up and the wind remained in a constant direction but did vary in strength. As a consequence, the course was a windward/leeward course at the south end of the lake.

Whilst there were initially six skippers, Malcolm Schaffer suffered an intermittent electrical failure and so withdrew before racing actually started. John Newton suffered a loose battery connection in the first race and so did not finish, with Graham Bartholomew suffering intermittent loss of signal. However, even with this issue, Graham with his new Kantun S, won the first and final four races, with some close finishes with Vernon Appleton. Having said that, Vernon had to leave early and so failed to start the last two races.

It was therefore Graham Bartholomew who was the winner on the day with 9 points, followed by Vernon Appleton on 10 points and John Newton third on 18 points.

As this was the first round, this leaves Graham Bartholomew leading the Spring Mid-week IOM Championship, followed by Vernon Appleton and John Newton third.

Round 2 will take place on Wednesday 13th April 2016.

Just a quick reminder for all you IOM Skippers, the Coventry Trophy and Round 2 of the Eastern District IOM Championship Series will be hosted by Coalhouse Fort on Sunday 1st May 2106, so get your entries in by emailing John Newton as soon as possible.
