Round 11 of the Winter Mid-week IOM Championship took place on a very cold Wednesday 16th March 2016. There was a strong breeze primarily from the ENE leading to a windward/leeward course at the south end of the lake, with a running finish.
We welcomed Malcolm Schaffer back from his extended Thailand holiday but his day finished prematurely, when he and Geoff Appleton had a coming together, damaging Malcolm’s jib pivot point causing him to retire.
From then on it was somewhat of a procession with Colin Goodman leading all but the last race with Graham Bartholomew taking second. The remaining places were a little closer with John Newton, Ray Bland and Geoff Appleton swapping places. However, during race 10 Geoff Appleton retired for the day as a consequence of his boat taking on a lot of water.
So the final results were Colin Goodman first on 11 points, followed by Graham Bartholomew on 21 points and John Newton third on 36 points.
With one more round to go and four discards, this leaves Colin Goodman still leading the Winter Mid-week IOM Championship on 6 points followed by Graham Bartholomew on 11 points and John Newton third on 16 points.
Just a quick reminder that next Sunday 20th March 2016 is the final round of the Numb Thumbs Winter IOM Championship, so let’s see all you skippers with an IOM on the water!!
